Research on Personal Knowledge Sharing in Peer Communities

UC ingot Project Introduction

The BookQuest Project focuses on research on personal knowledge sharing and the sharing of information organizations in peer communities. In the future it is likely that peer communities will be routinely established for the purpose of sharing electronic resources and targeted information among groups of peers with common interests. This sharing will be possible by building on existing Internet technologies, such as web services, IP multicasting, and peer-to-peer networks. Today many peer-to-peer networks do not work well for sharing large heterogeneous collections among common users. In our research we build models for organizing personal knowledge and improving methods of information sharing in peer communities.

Application software is available for download at this website . Currently we are targeting our application for use by the educational community, including students, researchers, and educators.

The MyBooks System is an application developed in our lab that provides user tools that enable improved organization of electronic resources for individuals in a peer community. The system provides innovation in personal knowledge sharing through the development of hybrid technologies involving website-like creation tools and topic-based data organization tools. A companion to the MyBooks system is a content-transfer, collaborative application, called MyPeers.
